SMM Panel Trends in India 2026: 8 Changes Every Buyer and Reseller Should Know

SMM Panel Trends in India 2026: 8 Changes Every Buyer and Reseller Should Know

The SMM panel market in India changed a lot in 2026. A major app was blocked for a week, new rules arrived for AI content and personal data, and long refill periods became cheap enough to make no-refill services hard to justify.

Here are eight changes that matter if you buy growth services, run an agency or resell them. Each one is backed by official figures or announcements.

1. UPI Is Now the Default Way to Pay

NPCI data shows UPI handled 24.07 billion transactions worth ₹29.37 lakh crore in September 2026. That works out to about 802 million payments a day, and 23% more transactions than a year earlier.

For SMM panels, this has made UPI support essential. Indian buyers expect to scan a QR code, pay ₹200 and see their balance update in seconds. Panels that only take cards or crypto are harder for small Indian buyers to use.

What to do: Choose a panel that accepts UPI and popular apps. Our step-by-step guide shows how to pay for SMM panel services using UPI.

2. Platform Risk Became Real

On 16 June 2026, India blocked Telegram nationwide under Section 69A of the IT Act. It followed the cancellation of the NEET-UG exam over a suspected paper leak, and the government accused Telegram of not acting against channels claiming to sell the leaked paper. The Delhi High Court upheld the block on 19 June, and it ended on 22 June.

For one week, Telegram was unavailable on Indian networks and app stores, so channel owners could not reach their readers in India. It was a clear lesson that any platform can go dark.

What to do: Never build on one app alone. If you run a Telegram channel, keep a backup audience on WhatsApp or Instagram. Our Telegram SMM panel guide explains what changed for channel owners.

3. Refills Matter More Than the Lowest Price

Cheap services with no refill often cost more in the end, because the numbers drop and are not replaced. Long refill periods are now common and affordable. On our panel, for example:

Service

30-day refill

365-day refill

Telegram members (per 1,000)

₹16

₹32

Indian Instagram likes (per 1,000)

₹27 (mix)

₹33 (100% Indian)

A full year of cover often costs only slightly more than a month, which makes no-refill options harder to justify.

What to do: Compare prices only between services with the same refill length. Our guide explains how refills work in an SMM panel.

4. Instagram Rewards Originality and Counts "Views"

Instagram made three changes that affect how growth services work:

  • Original content first (April 2024). When two posts are the same, Instagram recommends only the original. Accounts that mostly repost are kept out of recommendations.

  • Views as the main metric (August 2024). Instagram made views the primary number across Reels, Stories, photos and carousels.

  • Trial Reels (December 2024). Creators can test a Reel with non-followers first and see the results after about 24 hours.

Together, these mean original Reels matter more than ever. Paid views can lift a number, but only content people watch and share gets pushed to new audiences.

What to do: Spend most of your effort on original Reels and use paid services as a small boost. See how the metrics compare in Instagram saves vs shares vs likes.

5. New Rules for AI-Generated Content

On 10 February 2026, the government notified amendments to the IT Rules covering "synthetically generated information", in force from 20 February 2026. Platforms must now label AI-made content clearly and keep markers that show where it came from. Social media platforms must ask users to declare AI content before posting.

The rules also shorten some takedown timelines. Certain lawful orders must now be acted on within 3 hours instead of 36.

What this means for SMM: Services that post AI-written comments or AI-generated media sit closer to these rules than ever. Expect platforms to detect and label more automated content.

What to do: Keep custom comments natural and written by you. Avoid AI deepfakes or fake depictions of real people, which the new rules ban outright.

6. Data Protection Deadlines Are Coming

The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified in November 2025, with duties phased in over 18 months. Registration of consent managers starts about a year after notification. Most core duties, such as privacy notices, security safeguards and breach reporting, apply from around May 2027. Penalties can reach ₹250 crore for a single breach.

For panels and resellers, this covers the customer details you collect: names, emails, phone numbers and payment records.

What to do: Collect only what you need, keep it secure and delete it when you no longer need it. Our guide to the DPDP Act for SMM panel users covers the basics.

7. Real-Money Gaming Promotion Is Off Limits

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 bans online money games, and the government said its rules would take effect from 1 October 2025. Advertising banned games can lead to up to two years in jail and a fine of up to ₹50 lakh. Banks cannot process payments for these platforms.

What this means for SMM: Growing pages, channels or groups that promote real-money games, betting tips or "guaranteed winnings" is now a legal risk for the buyer and the reseller.

What to do: Refuse orders that promote money games. Our guide on whether SMM panels are safe and legal in India explains where the lines are.

8. WhatsApp Channels Became a Growth Channel

In June 2025, WhatsApp announced ads in its Updates tab, promoted channels and paid channel subscriptions. The Updates tab, home to Status and Channels, is used by 1.5 billion people every day, according to the company.

That turned WhatsApp Channels from a side feature into a real marketing channel for brands and creators.

What to do: If your audience lives on WhatsApp, start a channel now. You can find followers and reactions on our WhatsApp SMM panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are SMM panels legal in India?

We are not aware of any Indian law that bans buying likes or followers as such. But platform rules forbid fake engagement, and promoting banned activities, such as real-money games, is illegal. Use panels carefully and for lawful pages only. This is general information, not legal advice.

Is Telegram still working in India?

Yes. The block lasted from 16 to 22 June 2026, and access has been restored.

Do the new AI rules affect buying comments?

The rules mainly place duties on platforms, which must label AI content. But platforms will likely spot and label more automated comments, so natural, human-written comments are the safer choice.

When do the DPDP rules fully apply?

Most core duties apply 18 months after the rules were notified in November 2025, which is around May 2027.
